Masdevallia Beth Cox orchid,
a great new hybrid, Blooming Size.
This one was named for one of the owners of The Orchid Gallery by our friends at Carter and Holmes Orchids, who made the cross.
The breeding is Masdevallia Avalon Pellegrini x Masdevallia Pixie Shadow.
What we love about this seed cross is the way the flowers come out all over the map -- like Forrest Gump's box of chocolates, you never know what you are going to get. We have seen colors from orange to pink to dark lavender-purple, and some with stripes.
It's a very new cross, first registered in 2009. No awards so far, to our knowledge.
These are small but blooming size, likely to flower within 12 months or so. The longest leaves are about 5 inches. They are currently in 2 inch square pots. We recommend using one of our small Cool Pots for the next repotting.
Masdevallias are easy to grow orchids that are native to the cloud forests of the Andes in South America.
We have a bunch of these and we'll pick out a nice one for you.
